About the Charteris Consulting Team

Charteris Consulting is run by Dave Allen, Head of Development, and Nick Masterson-Jones, Head of Consulting.

Nick Masterson-Jones

Nick is the Head of Consulting for our practice, specialising in IT strategy, expert advisory and witness services, due diligence and programme management. He is a business and technology leader with a first-rate track record in delivering complex, innovative programmes and a wide experience in the financial sector covering payments, retail banking and investment banking.

His all-round management record includes P&L accountability and international roles as well as sales, consulting and operational experience. He has in-depth knowledge of how to successfully deliver portfolios of very large software developments using a range of different technologies and methods. 

Career highlights include the seamless replacement of the entire UK Bacs infrastructure and the implementation of a world-class central infrastructure for the UK’s innovative Faster Payments system. 

As well as building new solutions, Nick has also strong skills in IT operational management, ensuring high technical performance across a wide range of platforms. He served on the Royal Academy of Engineering’s study into engineering values in IT, a study designed to address the causes of project failure.

When he is away from the desk, Nick likes ultra-long-distance hiking - his record being just over 500 miles in 27 days.

Dave Allen

The Head of Business Development at Charteris Consulting, Dave has held multiple senior roles in major blue-chip organisations, including equensWorldline SE, Wincor Nixdorf, VocaLink and PWC. 

Dave specialises in payments technology and delivering growth through intelligent and focused development of sales strategies. He has grown a consultancy organisation from scratch into what was the fastest growing technology company in the UK and knows how to get the maximum results from geographically dispersed teams.

Unusually for a strong sales professional, Dave has also successfully undertaken high-profile complex delivery roles and has in-depth understanding of technology in the payments sector. 

Career highlights include running a team of 150 professionals at Wincor Nixdorf on a series of multi-million-pound contracts for the UK banking sector. Dave was recently invited to sit on the Participants Advisory Council for Pay.UK.

Dave is a keen golfer and yachtsman. He has represented Ireland at international level in sailing.

Chris Emery

For more than 40 years Chris has been delivering effective solutions to business problems in and around IT. His experience has been gained in domains such as the NHS and social care as well as private enterprises ranging from financial services to logistics and medical technology. He has delivered internationally, having been based in four European countries and the US.

His personal qualities include a positive attitude, a rigorous focus on delivering the highest quality and the energy to ensure achievement of the results his clients need.

Half of his career was spent with Logica, where he laid solid foundations in high quality project execution and broader management skills. Since joining Charteris, he has deepened his consulting skills and has spent several years giving expert advice in relation to IT disputes.

Chris has been engaged in the implementation of software products such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems since the 1980s. He has managed many initiatives from inception to a successful conclusion working with teams that have been numbered in hundreds. He has also advised clients on the selection of packaged software and vendors.

Outside the office, Chris is a keen runner and enjoys nothing more than a quick 10km race.
