ITV Broadcasting
Goals
The emergence of new technologies, such as video on demand and content over mobile, was creating the need for new ways of working with the scheduling department of ITV. The organisation therefore launched a business change initiative with the dual aims of refocusing the department on content and improving the efficiency of processes. ITV also sought to use this project to deliver some of the cost savings that it had promised the city.
Charteris' Role
Consultants from Charteris were appointed to become an integral part of the project team, working closely with both ITV employees and people from other third party organisations. Charteris evaluated the business processes in ITV’s scheduling department and discovered that 68% of them didn’t add sufficient value to the business. The consultants assessed over 300 operational issues and identified that 64% resulted from poor processes. As a result, Charteris proposed a radically different organisation structure, which reduced sixteen core business processes to just three.
Results
With Charteris’ support, the business and process track of the overall change programme was delivered on schedule and on budget. Following the completion of this part of the programme, ITV has started to gain cost savings from reductions in headcount and greater efficiency.
