Former Wiltshire Council chief executive joins Charteris Government practice

Business and information technology consultancy Charteris plc has recruited Keith Robinson, former chief executive of Wiltshire Council, as Board Adviser. The restructuring that Wiltshire Council has undertaken with Charteris’s assistance, and which the council is continuing to progress, is being seen by many in UK local government as a model for how local authorities can cut costs while simultaneously improving services.

Stephen Hewett, head of Charteris’s Government practice, said: ‘This senior appointment, of one of Britain’s most experienced local government chief executives, reflects the rising demand we at Charteris are seeing from the Government sector.’

Before starting to work with Charteris, Keith Robinson was Wiltshire Council’s chief executive since 1996. Prior to that he held positions at councils in Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire and Buckinghamshire. He was heavily involved with the major restructuring of Wiltshire Council’s community services in 2009.

Keith Robinson says: ‘Today, more than ever, local authorities need a clear vision of the future, and the right strategy to achieve it. The financial challenges facing the UK’s public sector offer the opportunity for local government to redesign its business around its customers and citizens.  I am looking forward to offering Charteris’ clients strategic and tactical guidance in these crucial areas.’
